Soft serve ice cream and convenience retail – a good match?
Soft serve ice cream and convenience retail, fast food, cafe’s and many others has not been a great match historically. Machines were large, think dishwasher size, lots of cleaning & waste and they required 16 amps or more power. Sales often weren’t great either, consumers didn’t see convenience stores in the minds eye as somewhere to buy an ice cream. Also ice cream used to be very weather dependant, which is hard work in the UK!
It’s very profitable, a typical ice cream cone cost is around 15p, the RRP is £1.50. This is far better than the cartridge type ice cream which cost more like £1 to make, anyone having success with those, has proven that they should invest in a real soft ice cream machine.
But relatively recently consumer habits have changed in the favour of convenience retailers, who have responded well to their customers needs. It’s now a normal part of our culture to buy morning coffee and food to go lunch from convenience stores and dinner on the way home. Food to go and drinks to go are serious business, coffee, slush, iced coffee, baked products, pizza, hot-dogs and even cocktails are all selling well as this market continues to develop.
In these settings real soft ice cream can sell very well. Self service is the best option for the highest sales. Our new machine has a unique self closing tap, so it’s not messy at all. Read on:
The new 161 T GSP by Carpigiani is made for convenience stores. For a start it’s smaller, much smaller at only 32cm wide. Self Pasteurising means it only needs to be cleaned once a month and with minimal parts to dismantle that job is quick and easy, oh and the machine tells you when to do it! Not only that the 161 has vertical airflow, meaning it can fit into a narrow space, go up against the wall and side by side with other objects without any airflow issues.
Although it’s compact. this soft ice cream machine packs a punch that defies it’s size, it can easily produce 100 cones an hour, more than enough for convenience stores, cafes, fast food takeaways, pubs, restaurants, the list goes on.  Add to that Carpigiani’s legendary quality and expert support, including over 60 engineers countrywide, investing in a 161 is not only profitable, it’s painless too. This machine is packed with patented industry leading technology which you just don’t find elsewhere.

The cost of a quality genuine Carpigiani machine is not small, but considering what it does and that its longevity is counted in decades, it’s a sound investment. We have lease options available, which can make a lot of financial sense.
