Faulty or broken Slush machine motor

Faulty or broken Slush machine motors can happen with slushie machines. Let us tell you more about the reasons slush machine gear motors fail and how to fix them. Let us tell you more about the reasons slush machine gear motors fail and how to fix it.

Each bowl on a commercial slush machine will have a motor which turns the spiral. The spiral shaves off the ice that forms on the evaporator, which over time makes the slush. These motors also known as gear motors need to be looked after. If they fail it is either old and worn out or the user of the machine has caused the faulty or broken Slush machine motor.

If the faulty or broken Slush machine motor has not simply failed due to wear and tear, the reason will probably be one of the following:

  1. Incorrect slush mix: Using poor-quality syrup or over-diluting the syrup with water can cause the slush mix to freeze solid. This puts extra strain on the motor, leading to failure. To avoid this, ensure you use the correct amount of syrup and water to maintain the right consistency for slush. Store diluted and undiluted mix in separate locations to prevent accidental over-dilution.
  2. Ice floating inside the machine: If the slush machine is turned off while there is still ice inside, it can freeze and harden overnight. When the motor is started with ice present, it may not be strong enough to break it up, resulting in motor failure. To prevent this, remove any ice before starting the spirals. Some slush machines have an overnight mode that keeps the slush mix moving while defrosting to prevent ice formation.
  3. Running the machine too low on product: Allowing the slush mix level to drop below the spirals puts additional strain on the motor as it has to work harder to rotate them. This increased workload can cause wear and tear, leading to motor failure. It is important to keep the spirals covered with slush mix to minimize stress on the motor.

Fitting a new commercial slush machine motor is fairly straightforward. First make sure you buy the correct replacement, there are different types. Our video shows how qualified person can replace a gearmotor on a Snowshock commercial slush machine.
